Distinguished and Famous people from St Leonards

🔬 Professor Tom Reeve

Tom Reeve built a distinguished surgical career at Royal North Shore Hospital in St Leonards. After training in New York, he returned as a surgical research fellow and became a University of Sydney senior lecturer in 1961. His work strengthened the hospital's thyroid and endocrine surgery programme, combining clinical care with research and teaching. After retirement, he helped develop cancer treatment guidelines through the Australian Cancer Society, now Cancer Council Australia. In August 2023 the hospital awarded him its inaugural alumni medal, shortly before his hundredth birthday would have fallen. His local legacy lies in decades of medical work and the surgeons he helped train.
